The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has urged its members to ensure the association evolves beyond a professional body into a confident institution that sets engineering standards, drives innovation, shapes national policy and delivers measurable value.
President of the NSE, Ali Rabiu, gave the charge at the inauguration of the Society’s 2026 Boards and Committees, describing the new leadership structure as a major step in repositioning the professional body for stronger relevance, resilience and national influence.
Speaking at the virtual event, Rabiu tasked engineers with strengthening the Society’s foundations and restoring its standing as a critical voice in national development and policy direction.
According to him, the newly inaugurated boards and committees represent the engine room of proactive leadership within the Society, providing the frameworks and actionable plans required to pursue NSE’s objectives in an organised and strategic manner.
Rabiu explained that the selection of chairmen and members was guided strictly by the society’s governing provisions and deliberately structured to harness the experience and competence needed to move the association forward.
He expressed confidence that the prevailing challenges could be overcome through collaboration, commitment, and strategic planning, and charged committee chairmen to ensure the effective organisation of their members. “Every appointee must play an active role in decision-making and the execution of assigned responsibilities,” he said.
The NSE president also demanded stronger accountability across the committees, noting that chairmen would be required to submit periodic performance appraisals on members’ productivity. He warned that members found to be underperforming could be replaced during the year.
Rabiu further urged the leadership teams to align their activities consistently with the NSE Strategic Agenda Document, describing it as the compass guiding the society’s priorities and contributions to national development.
He also encouraged the extensive use of information technology and virtual platforms for meetings.
Rabiu added that physical meetings would be approved only where there is a compelling need.
Members of the newly constituted boards and committees include Kashim Ali as Chairman of the Electoral Committee; Tasiu Wudil as Head of the International Affairs Committee; Kamila Maliki as Chairman of the Board of Fellows; Abdul Wanori as Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee; and Major General S. Obi (rtd) as Chairman of the Security Committee, among others.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Ali commended the NSE president for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that the committees would work diligently to deliver on their mandates while strengthening processes within the society.
