The Ogun State Government has pledged to intensify efforts to combat gender-based violence (GBV), particularly against women and children, warning perpetrators to desist or face the full weight of the law.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, stated this yesterday in Abeokuta, saying the administration was determined to clamp down on offenders as part of its 2026 social development agenda.

Adeleye said the ministry had, over the years, protected vulnerable persons and strengthened institutional effectiveness, stressing that no form of abuse or exploitation would be overlooked.

She noted that the ministry could not enforce appropriate punishment for violators without the support of security agencies, whistleblowers, and the Ministry of Justice, urging the institutions to cooperate to protect the rights of survivors.

The commissioner explained that the ministry’s three-in-one New Year programme was designed as a strategic convergence of reflection, capacity strengthening and celebration, aimed at sharpening institutional focus, aligning stakeholders and setting a clear policy direction for the year.

She commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for creating what she described as an enabling environment that prioritises social inclusion and safeguards women, children and other vulnerable groups across the state.

“Policies and programmes in the new year will prioritise prevention, early intervention, survivor support and effective justice delivery, ensuring that social protection systems for women, children and other vulnerable members of society are responsive, resilient and sustainable,” Adeleye said.
