Released El-Rufai arrives Abuja residence

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, setting the bail at ₦100 million and requiring one surety in a similar amount.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who gave the ruling, specified strict conditions for the surety. The individual must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro in the Federal Capital Territory and must submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court registry.

The court also ruled that the surety must be a federal civil servant of not less than Grade Level 17, and must present proof of salary payments covering at least three months. In addition, the court said the documents must be verified through a letter from the surety’s bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.

Justice Abdulmalik further ordered El-Rufai to provide a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council as part of his bail conditions.

The ruling follows ongoing controversy surrounding El-Rufai’s detention. His family has accused officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of violating his fundamental rights while in custody.

SaharaReporters previously reported that his wife, Aichatou El-Rufai, alleged that ICPC officials prevented his doctor from accessing him, despite what she described as a valid court order allowing unrestricted medical visits. She claimed the doctor was turned away and told to obtain written approval from the ICPC chairman.

She also alleged that she was denied access to deliver dinner to her husband at the agency’s premises, saying officials refused food deliveries after 6:30 pm.

El-Rufai’s son, Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, also condemned the incident. He described the alleged actions as violations of a court order and an attack on his father’s constitutional rights, calling for full respect of due process and an end to what he termed intimidation.
