Ten police personnel attached to the 44 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Abuja, have reportedly been killed by armed bandits during a gun battle in Makuku, Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The officers were among security personnel deployed to the community on special duty to confront armed bandits operating in the area.
According to a police situation report (SITREP) obtained by SaharaReporters, the attack occurred in Makuku village, with 10 police personnel and two civilians reportedly killed in the ensuing gun duel.
The report, dated August 10, 2026, stated that information received by the police at about 7:40 p.m. indicated that the bandits had killed the Mobile Police Force personnel during the confrontation.
Following the attack, a team of police officers led by the Divisional Police Officer of Sakaba Division, DSP Umaru Bagudu, reportedly visited the scene, where they found the bodies of the slain officers in the Makuku area.
The deceased officers were identified as ASP Bala Buba, 43; Inspector Saminu Sulaiman, 40; Inspector Solomon Jatau, 39; Inspector Ayuba Hassain, 38; Inspector Umar Yahuza, 37; Inspector Auwal Sani, 38; Sergeant Jimoh Momo, 35; Corporal Ukpong Otrukmj, 34; Inspector Adamu Abdullahi, 35; and Inspector Abdullahi Magaji, 43.
All 10 officers were attached to the 44 PMF, Abuja, and were serving on special duty in the area.
Two civilians were also reportedly killed in the attack. They were identified as Mohammadu Magwawara, 50, and Muhammadu Tiritiri, 45.
Another civilian, Shehu Abubakar, 41, sustained serious gunshot wounds during the attack.
The bodies of those killed were evacuated to the General Hospital, Dirin Daji, where they were confirmed dead. Abubakar was subsequently referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, for further medical treatment.
The attackers were also reported to have seized a significant quantity of firearms and ammunition belonging to the security personnel after the gun battle.
The police report stated that the bandits reportedly escaped with one RPG rifle, two riot guns, 10 AK-47 rifles and other arms and ammunition.
The latest attack adds to the security challenges facing parts of Kebbi State, where armed groups have continued to pose a threat to residents and security personnel.
