A 41-year-old man, Gbadura Temitope, on Friday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged N1.1 million fraud.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and conversion of funds.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 5, 2021, in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant obtained N1.1 million from the complainant, Mr Ojo Momoh, under the pretext of selling three plots of land to him, which he knew to be false.
Apata also alleged that the defendant converted the money to personal use.
He said the offences contravened Sections 328 and 295 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Bamidele adjourned the case until June 17 for hearing.
