Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has officially approved Prince Ashiru Oyebisi Olalere as the new Onilua of Ilua, one of the most respected traditional stools in Kajola Local Government Area.
The announcement marks the conclusion of the succession process for the revered Ilua throne.
The governor’s approval was conveyed in an official letter issued by the Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Secretariat, Ibadan.
The letter, dated December 31, 2025, with reference number CB.141/26A Vol. III/99, was signed by the Director of Chieftaincy Matters, A.M. Olajire, confirming the authenticity of the appointment.
The ministry stated that Governor Makinde had “graciously approved” Prince Ashiru Oyebisi Olalere’s appointment, with effect from October 20, 2023.
The appointment will also be published in the Oyo State Government Official Gazette, in compliance with statutory provisions governing traditional institutions across the state.
The appointment has been warmly received by indigenes of Ilua and stakeholders in Kajola Local Government, who view the new monarch’s ascension as a step towards strengthening traditional leadership and fostering communal unity.
In congratulating the new Onilua, the state government expressed optimism that his reign would usher in peace, stability, and accelerated socio-economic development in Ilua and surrounding communities.
“May your tenure as the Onilua of Ilua be characterised by peace, progress, and socio-economic growth in Kajola Local Government Area,” the letter read, extending wishes for a successful and enduring reign on the throne of his forebears.
