In Nigeria, SMEs form a major part of the economy, employing millions of people and driving activity in sectors such as retail, services, manufacturing, and technology. As digital adoption continues to grow, AI may soon play a significant role in how these businesses operate.

One of the most immediate ways AI could influence small businesses is through automation. Many routine tasks that once required manual effort can now be handled by intelligent systems. Customer inquiries can be answered using automated chat systems, marketing campaigns can be optimised using data analysis, and inventory levels can be monitored with predictive tools.

For Nigeria’s SME ecosystem, the discussion around artificial intelligence should not be limited to large technology companies. Instead, it should also focus on how smaller businesses can gradually integrate digital tools that improve productivity and support sustainable growth.
