The National Chairman of the Association of Estate Agents of Nigeria, Mr Jatto Isah, has expressed concern over the challenges posed by the activities of fake agents.
Disclosing this in a recent chat with newsmen, Isah noted that the association is working hard to tackle some of its challenges, adding that some of the fake agents have constantly refused to come and register with the body.
“We are trying to control the problem we are having. We asked them to come and register with us. Then they will train them and give them guidelines on how to operate. But unfortunately, many of them decide to do this on their own,” Isah said.
According to him, the activities of fake agents are creating a negative perception of the association among the public while misleading unsuspecting individuals.
He lamented that these fake agents extort large sums of money from their victims: “They go as far as collecting as much as 40 per cent commission, and they collect money to go and show an apartment which they do not even have. We are trying to correct that.”
