Nigerian Bar Association Anaocha Branch, popularly known as the “Family Bar,” has concluded a successful Biennial Law Week and Bar Dinner, highlighted by the naming of a Hall of Honour at its Bar Centre after former NBA President, Chief Okey Walli, SAN.

The Law Week activities commenced on May 8, 2026, under the theme: “Justice Delivery and Prevailing Conflicting Judgements: Imperative for Urgent Judicial Reforms.”

The event featured an array of activities, including lectures and panel discussions on judicial reforms, unveiling and launching of the second edition of the NBA Anaocha Branch Bar Journal (Issues 1 and 2), commissioning of facilities at the Chief Charles E.N. Obegolu (Ezeani Ononiwu) Bar Centre in Obeledu, free medical checks for lawyers, a road walk exercise, Bar Dinner and Award Night at White Castle Hotel, Neni, and a thanksgiving mass at St. John Catholic Church, Neni, all within Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The lecture session drew commendation from participants and discussants for the relevance and timeliness of the chosen theme in light of recent conflicting judicial pronouncements within Nigeria’s legal system.

Distinguished panelists at the event included Prof. Doyin Awoyale, SAN, Monday Ubani, SAN, Ejike Ezenwa, SAN, Mrs. Oyinkasola Badejo-Okunsanya, SAN, Hon. Justice Tagbo Anieto, Prof. C.J. Ubanyionwu, SAN, Prof. M.N. Umenweke, while Dr. Ejike Okaphor served as moderator.

During the Bar Dinner and Award Night, merit awards were presented to several distinguished personalities, including NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN; former NBA President, Chief Okey Walli, SAN; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Anambra State, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN; Hon. Justice Etomike Ndigwe; and Amb. Chief Vincent Udobi.

One of the major highlights of the event was the commissioning of newly completed facilities at the Chief Charles E.N. Obegolu Bar Centre under the leadership of the John C. Oraekeh-led 2024–2026 Executive Committee.

Among the commissioned facilities were the Chief Okey Walli, SAN Hall of Honour, Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN Conference Room, Chief Clems Ezika, SAN Lobby, Chief B.E.I. Nwofor, SAN Library, Chief Chris Adimora Chairman’s Office, Sir Basil Aguigwo, Esq. Secretary’s Office, and Chief Dr. Rich Egenti Cafeteria.

The branch expressed appreciation to several dignitaries and stakeholders for their support and contributions toward the success of the Law Week. Those acknowledged included NBA President Afam Osigwe, SAN; the Administrative Judge of Anaocha Judicial Division, Hon. Justice G.C. Anulude, who represented the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Hon. Justice O.M. Anyachebelu; Hon. Justice Dennis C. Mmaduechesi; Hon. Justice Arinze Akabua; Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN; Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN; Chief Clems Ezika, SAN; Sebastine Anyia; and several other legal luminaries and public officials.

The Chairman of the branch, John C. Oraekeh, Esq., also commended members of the branch executive, the Bar Journal Committee chaired by Prof. Johnny Okongwu, the Law Week Planning Committee led by Sir Basil Aguigwo, as well as members of the branch for their dedication in ensuring the success of the event.
