Sowore replies NBA, debunks staging press conference in court

Mr Omoyele Sowore on Monday had a heated encounter with former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, an incident that quickly went viral and triggered widespread reactions online.

The confrontation, captured on video, showed Sowore directly confronting Malami over his ongoing legal troubles, drawing comparisons between his current situation and his actions while serving under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a pointed remark, Sowore told him, “You see how it feels now to be persecuted. When you were with Buhari, you were bragging. We warned you then that there was failure in the justice system, but you didn’t listen, and now the system is dealing with you.”

The exchange happened within the court premises and attracted the attention of lawyers, litigants, and onlookers, some of whom reacted with light amusement.

Sowore also attempted to symbolically invite Malami into his Revolution Now movement, offering him an orange beret and saying, “I want to give you my cap. This is a revolutionary cap.”

He further noted Malami’s composure despite his legal challenges, saying, “At least I’m glad that you are strong… no matter how powerful you are, we will never support you. We are resilient till tomorrow.”

In response, Malami maintained a calm stance, insisting on his continued confidence in the judicial process. “I can never be down. I have been attending all my court sittings. I will keep attending. And I remain strong,” he said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) are prosecuting the former AGF over allegations including money laundering, unlawful possession of firearms, and unlawful acquisition of assets. Malami is also challenging a forfeiture order on some of his properties, insisting they were lawfully acquired.
