The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Saturday state Assembly by-election in two constituencies in Kano.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the by-election in Kano Municipal and Ungogo state constituencies to fill the vacant seats in the state house of assembly.

Declaring the result yesterday, Professor Ibrahim Tajo Sirajo , returning officer for Kano Municipal, affirmed Aliyu Nabil Daneji of APC as winner of the by-election.

According to the returning officer, the APC candidate pulled 7,484 votes to defeat his close rival Abdullahi Mohammad of Action Democratic Party ADP who scored 31 votes.

Similarly, INEC returning officer for Ungogo state constituency Professor Ali Tijjani Abdullahi declared Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad of All Progressives Congress APC winner of the by-election.

The APC candidate was said to have defeated eight other candidates with 8,975 votes to emerge overall.

According to INEC, Sa’ad beat Shaabu Hamisu of Action Democratic Party ADP who had 54 votes and Adamu Aishatu of Peoples Redemption Party PRP with 51 votes.

Meanwhile, INEC has attributed the low turnout of voters during Saturday’s by-election to Ramadan fasting period.

Kano resident electoral commissioner Amb. Abdu Zango disclosed this while granting interview to journalists at Kankarfi ward in Kano Municipal on Saturday.

The INEC REC who was on inspection of the conduct of the poll in company of security chiefs however expressed satisfaction on the functionality of electoral materials and security provision.

Reacting on why the three major opposition parties were missing on the ballots, the INEC REC insisted the commission would not be held accountable for responsibility of the political parties.

On his part, Commissioner of police in Kano, CP Adamu Ibrahim Bakori said the tactical deployment of men and officers for the by-election had ensure smooth and peaceful conduct.
