/* That's all, stop editing! */ define('DISABLE_WP_CRON', true); Borno constable returns N2.6m to counter NPF negative public perceptions – Ask Legal Palace

A Borno State Police Command constable, Muhammad Alhaji Mohammad, has returned no less than N2.6 million that was erroneously credited into his bank account in Maiduguri, the state capital

According to him, the return of the money to the bank was driven by the desire to counter the negative police image in the country.

One Bello Jafar, in a Facebook post on Friday, commended the police officer for what he described as “an uncommon display of honesty and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).”

Jafar wrote, “I would like to formally express my appreciation for Mohammad Alhaji Muhammad, a loyal customer of the United Bank of Africa (UBA) and a police officer currently serving in Borno State with exceptional integrity.”

Regarding UBA’s crediting N2.6 million into Muhammad’s account, he added: “Muhammad received the money in an error from a Moniepoint customer, but took an immediate step to ensure that it was returned to the rightful owner.”

Confirming the development, the police command’s spokesman, SP Nahum Daso, in a telephone interview on Monday in Maiduguri, said: “The State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, had already invited Muhammad for a brief meeting.”

Daso further explained that the police constable, who works at the Insurance Office of the Borno State Police Command, received the credit bank alert on Thursday but was not expecting such a large payment.

“When the police constable received the credit bank alert on his phone last Thursday, he said he knew he was not expecting any particular money,” stated the SP.
