NBA-ICLE deadline for 5 CPD Units Compliance, March 31

The Nigerian Bar Association Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) has issued a reminder to legal practitioners across the country on the mandatory requirement to complete a minimum of five Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units for the current reporting year.

In a notice addressed to legal practitioners, NBA-ICLE stressed that compliance with the CPD requirement is necessary for lawyers to remain in good standing under the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) Rules.

“To remain in good standing and fully compliant with the NBA MCPD Rules, every legal practitioner is required to complete and record a minimum of five (5) CPD Hours/ Units on or before 31 March 2026.”

According to the institute, the annual CPD reporting year runs from April 1 to March 31, with the current reporting period having commenced on April 1, 2025, and set to close on March 31, 2026. CPD activities completed outside this period, the institute clarified, will not be credited toward the 2025 reporting year.

“For clarity, the annual CPD reporting year runs from 1 April to 31 March. Accordingly, the 2025 CPD reporting period commenced on 1 April 2025 and will close on 31 March 2026. CPD activities completed outside this window will not count toward the current reporting year.”

NBA-ICLE explained that every legal practitioner is required to complete and properly record at least five CPD hours or units on or before the March 31, 2026 deadline.
