The Nigerian Bar Association has reminded legal practitioners across the country of the statutory requirement to pay their 2026
Annual Bar Practicing Fee (BPF) on or before March 31, 2026.
Payment of the Annual Bar Practicing Fee within the stipulated timeframe is mandatory for all lawyers who wish to remain in good standing and legally practice law in Nigeria. The association noted that timely payment of the BPF comes with several important professional and welfare benefits.These benefits according to NBA include a valid licence to practice law, eligibility for appointment as a Notary Public, qualification for elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), consideration for judicial appointments, and participation in NBA activities at both national and branch levels. Other benefits attached to BPF payment include access to finance schemes, life insurance cover, and other welfare packages provided by the association.
The NBA stated that payments can be conveniently made online through the verified membership portal on its official website at https://portal.nigerianbar.org.ng/login.
The association also released the approved schedule of fees based on the year of call. The Schedule of BPF per year of call is as follows:
Senior Advocates & Honourable Benches – N50,000.
Legal Practitioners of 15 years & above post call – N25,000.
Legal Practitioners of 10 – 14 years post call – 17,500.
Legal Practitioners of 5 – 9 years post call – N10,000.
Legal Practitioners of 1 – 4 years post call – N5,000.
The NBA urged all legal practitioners to comply promptly with the payment directive in order to enjoy uninterrupted professional privileges and avoid sanctions associated with default.
