The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has scheduled the conduct of councillorship bye-elections into Ward B (Ogunoloko) and Ward B (Dopemu) in the Oshodi/Isolo and Agege local government areas for Saturday, March 24, 2018.
According to the timetable released by the commission on Tuesday, political parties are expected to collect nomination forms for their candidates between March 5 and 7, 2018, while the forms are to be submitted to the commission not later than March 13, 2018.
A statement that followed the timetable said the register of voters would be displayed at the ward collation centres of the affected wards on March 9, 2018, while the list of validated candidates for the elections would be released by the commission on March 21, 2018.
“The Chairman of the commission, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd.), has enjoined leaders of political parties and other stakeholders to cooperate with the commission to ensure that the electoral process is peaceful and devoid of violence. She pledged that the commission would ensure that the elections were free, fair and credible,” the statement read in part.
Phillips also urged eligible voters in the affected wards to ensure that they obtained their voter cards which would enable them to vote on the day of the elections.
“The conduct of the bye-elections in the two wards is necessitated by the death of the occupants of the two councillorship seats in the two local government areas,” the statement added.
