The Director of News at Arise Television, Sumner Sambo, has called on the Federal Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to explain developments surrounding the trial of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
Sambo made the remarks on Wednesday while appearing as a guest on “Prime Time,” a programme on Arise Television.
His comments followed reports that a London court discharged and acquitted Alison-Madueke of all charges after 11 years.
Sambo said it was positive that Alison-Madueke had maintained her innocence and secured justice, but insisted that Nigerians deserve a clearer understanding of the case and its outcome.
According to him, the Federal Government and the EFCC had previously informed the public that certain assets and valuables linked to the matter had been recovered.
He said the authorities should now clarify what has changed and explain why the outcome of the case appears different.
Sambo also questioned whether all relevant facts had been properly presented to British authorities and called for explanations regarding the differing conclusions reached in the case.
