Hustler arrested in Edo over girlfriend’s death

Police in Ogun State have arrested a 45-year-old woman, Adeoye Taiwo, for allegedly pouring hot water on her twin sister’s daughter in Ijebu-Imusin, leaving the 13-year-old with severe burns.

The incident reportedly occurred in the Odomogun area of Ijebu-Imusin. The victim, identified as Adeoye Modinat, was said to be living with the suspect at the time.

The suspect allegedly accused the girl of “following men” in the area and instructed her own daughter to boil water, which she then poured on the victim.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said detectives responded promptly after receiving the report and arrested the suspect.

He said officers visited the scene, rescued the victim and took her to a medical facility, where she is receiving treatment.

“The incident, which occurred on April 13, 2026 at about 3:30 a.m. at Odomogun Area, Imusin, was reported to the police, prompting an immediate response from detectives attached to the division,” he said.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives visited the scene, rescued the victim and ensured her transfer to a medical facility, where she is receiving treatment.”

Babaseyi added that the suspect had been charged to court.

Sources said she was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ijebu-Imusin and granted bail in the sum of N3 million, which she has yet to meet. She is currently being held at the Igbeba Correctional Centre.

The police command reiterated its condemnation of violence and abuse against children and stated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society.
