The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old woman, Adeoye Taiwo, for allegedly pouring hot water on a 13-year-old girl, leaving her with severe burn injuries in the Odomogun area of Ijebu Imusin, Ogun State.
The victim, identified as Adeoye Modinat, is reportedly the daughter of the suspect’s twin sister and had been living with her prior to the incident.
According to sources, the suspect accused the teenager of engaging in inappropriate behaviour and allegedly instructed her own daughter to boil the water used in the assault.
It was further gathered that the suspect was arrested, detained, and later arraigned before the Ijebu Mushin Magistrate Court, where she was granted bail in the sum of ₦3 million. However, she was remanded at the Igbegba Correctional Centre after failing to meet the bail conditions.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said detectives responded promptly after receiving a distress report on April 13, 2026.
“The incident, which occurred at about 3:30 p.m. in Odomogun Area, Imusin, was reported to the police, prompting immediate response from detectives attached to the division,” he said.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the victim was rescued and immediately taken to a medical facility where she is currently receiving treatment. The suspect has been arrested and charged to court,” he added.
Babaseyi condemned all forms of child abuse and violence, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice in cases of abuse.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over rising cases of domestic violence and child abuse within communities, with calls for stricter enforcement of child protection laws.
