Police in Ogun State have launched an investigation into the death of a member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Victoria Ariyo.
Ariyo, who was serving in Abeokuta South Local Council, lost her life last Tuesday due to pregnancy-related complications.
The Guardian learnt that the deceased terminated the pregnancy after which she developed complications leading to her demise.
She had been laid to rest at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road in Abeokuta.
But sources in NYSC said the Local Government Inspector (LGI) identified as Abass Olalekan, was responsible for the pregnancy.
Following the allegation, Olalekan was reportedly arrested, and taken into police custody at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the police had launched an investigation into the death of the female corp member to unravel the cause of her demise.
“I can confirm that the case of the demise of Victoria Ariyo is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),” Babaseyi noted.
