Protesters under the aegis of Concerned Citizens yesterday stormed the Igbinedion Education Centre to express their displeasure over the bullying incident that took place in the school.

Viral videos from the school showed some students being beaten, flogged and kicked by supposed senior students.

The school management, in a statement, said the identified students have been suspended.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions and blocked the entrance gate to the school.

However, security was beefed up around the school to prevent the protesters from entering the premises.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has announced that the parents of students involved in a viral assault video at Igbinedion Education Centre, a private secondary school in Benin City, will be prosecuted, as it directs the state’s Police Command to investigate the matter.

The Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, made this known on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, describing the incident as deeply troubling and confirming that the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration had set up a committee to get to the root of the matter.

“It is quite disturbing when we heard it. We were just wondering what could have warranted this,” Afegbua said, adding that the government had already moved to expel the students involved.
