IN commemoration of the International Women’s Day (IWD), an appeal has gone to government at all levels for commitment, collaboration, and partnerships for a human global society that is firmly built on justice, shared responsibilities, and shared success.

The Convener, IWD (WhatsApp) Forum, Túndé Ọlá Sànyàolú, who made the appeal on Sunday, said the issue of equity is more an issue of humankind than it is of womankind. “This year we have complementary themes: “Give to Gain, and Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.

“Let us give opportunities, recognition, confidence, support, dreams, fairness, space, encouragement, and education – all beautifully wrapped in equity – to females. Let us then watch the emergence or an improved sustenance of a more dignified society, a healthier family, a more innovative organisation, and a stronger community. Creativity and leadership will expand for the benefit of all. Let us sow the seeds and enjoy the sweet juice of “win-win” fruit.”

Sànyàolú said no one can ignore the fact that progress is truly being made in the struggle for the equity being canvassed for, adding it is only that the break-even point is still a long way. “When the onward movement does not stop, the distance to the destination reduces.

“Beautiful flowers for governments, organisations, cultures, groups, and individuals of both genders that have in one way or the other contributed to the progress. We are to build stronger relationships and a culture defined solidly by fairness in contradistinction to derogatory discrimination and undignified stereotypes.

“Can we always be conscious of the truth that being a female or a male is the work of nature, divine nature anyone may wish to say. We appeal for commitment, collaboration, and partnerships for a human global society that is firmly built on justice, shared responsibilities, and shared success,” he said.

One of the speakers, Ayedun Olubusayo Oluwakemi, said the IWD is a reminder that when women stand together, empowered by their rights, guided by justice, and driven by action, there is no limit to what can be achieved. “When women rise, the world rises with them.”

She said: “To every woman reading this: your story matters, your strength matters, and your voice matters. Even when the road feels lonely or uncertain, remember that every step you take forward opens the path for another girl to follow.”
