A young Nigerian woman has taken to social media to express her frustration after she and several other tenants were forcefully evicted from their apartment less than two weeks after paying their rent, following a dispute over the property between two brothers.
In a video that has since gone viral online, the visibly upset woman described the shocking moment they woke up to find themselves being driven out of their home.
“Nigeria just happened to me. The injustice in this country is alarming. I woke up to this drama less than two weeks after paying my rent,” she said in the video.
According to her, the property in question had reportedly been sold by one of the brothers, while the landlord the tenants had been dealing with continued to collect rent from them despite being involved in a court case with his sibling over ownership of the building.
“Apparently, the house was sold by one of the brothers, while the landlord we knew still collected rent from us even though he is in court with his brother over the property,” she explained.
She further alleged that those who carried out the eviction took advantage of the fact that many of the occupants were students.
“Because most of us are students, they overpowered us. They broke down the doors and threw out everyone’s belongings,” she recounted.
The woman said the incident has left her and the other tenants stranded and without shelter, adding that no refunds have been offered for the rent they recently paid.
“Just like that, we are now homeless and they are refusing to refund our rent,” she lamented.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the eviction and calling for justice for the affected tenants.
