/* That's all, stop editing! */ define('DISABLE_WP_CRON', true); Deregistration suit of ADC, Accord, others fixed for hearing, Feb. 24 – Ask Legal Palace

Suit seeking the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and the Action Peoples Party (APP) has been adjourned by the Federal High Court in Abuja to February 24, 2026.

The matter, which was scheduled for a hearing yesterday, could not proceed due to the presiding judge’s absence.

The court premises witnessed heightened activity, with all parties to the suit present and duly represented by their legal teams.

The National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the ADC each engaged two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) for the proceedings.

The Accord Party was represented by one SAN, while the other affected parties also had senior counsels in attendance.

Legal fireworks are expected to commence next week when the court resumes hearing on the substantive matter.

Speaking to journalists after the court session, the lead counsel for the NFFL, Yakubu Ruba (SAN), explained that the suit was seeking constitutional interpretation.

“The suit filed by the NFFL seeks the court’s interpretation of the Constitution and aims to further expound Nigeria’s electoral jurisprudence,” he said.

Recall that the NFFL, a public interest group, instituted the suit in December 2025, challenging the continued recognition of the affected political parties over alleged failure to meet the constitutional threshold required for their existence.

The Forum has maintained that the legal action is geared towards enriching and strengthening Nigeria’s electoral jurisprudence, describing the case as a crucial step toward promoting adherence to the rule of law and ensuring a more credible and functional political system in the country.
