Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has condemned what he described as the continued exclusion of law graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria from the Nigerian Law School.
He urged stakeholders to end what he described as the discriminatory treatment of the institution’s graduates.
Nwifuru, who spoke on Friday during a meeting with the management of NOUN in Abakaliki, according to a statement made available to Saturday PUNCH, said Nigerians should be concerned about the restrictions placed on graduates of the university’s Faculty of Law.
The governor maintained that NOUN remains a federal institution with a reputation for producing competent professionals and graduates.
He charged the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, to spearhead sustained advocacy against what he described as the discrimination and exclusion of the university’s law graduates from the Nigerian Law School.
According to him, the continued restriction undermines the credibility of a federal university and denies qualified Nigerians the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Nwifuru noted that NOUN is populated by accomplished professionals pursuing academic advancement and has continued to produce knowledgeable graduates across various disciplines.
He urged relevant stakeholders to address the issue to ensure equal opportunities for all qualified law graduates, regardless of their mode of study.
