The Lagos State Government has urged developers and other stakeholders in the building sector to actively engage with its Electronic Physical Planning Permit System (e-PPPS), an initiative critical to improving the ease of doing business within the state’s construction sector.
It reaffirmed that the e-PPPS is a digital platform designed to streamline physical planning processes across the state and will assist stakeholders to conveniently apply for permits and fitness certificates from any location, thereby simplifying procedures and reducing turnaround time.
The state’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, who spoke at a stakeholders’ engagement at the weekend in Lagos, explained that the introduction of the e-PPPS underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance service delivery in the built environment.
Olumide, therefore, encouraged stakeholders and members of the public to actively engage with the platform, emphasising that its adoption would foster greater efficiency, accountability, and transparency in physical planning processes.
The commissioner also reiterated the state government’s resolve to ensure that all development activities within the state align with established regulatory standards.
On his part, Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Abdul Kabir Opeyemi Ogungbo, commended the initiative as a strategic move toward improving revenue generation and compliance within the building sector.
He highlighted the importance of integrating digital solutions into governance systems to promote seamless service delivery and eliminate bottlenecks associated with manual processes.
However, a planner, Victor Akinyelure, who spoke on the technical details of the new initiative, described the e-PPPS as a comprehensive “one-stop shop” for all physical planning needs.
According to him, the web-based system will facilitate the submission of applications, processing of approvals, issuance of permits, and stage certification, including building certification processes.
He further explained that the platform will enable users to carry out all required procedures remotely, thereby eliminating the need for multiple visits to physical offices.
He said: “The system is designed to promote transparency, efficiency, and a smart processing experience for all users, in line with global best practices,” he said.
