Security threats have been happening in Nigeria for decades. This menace keeps occurring time to time, and the perpetrators have turned it into a daily routine, invading many villages, communities, killing innocent people and abducting some with a huge ransom to gain freedom. Sometimes, after ransom has been paid, the attackers still further kill the abductee in their cage. This is painful!
The problem of insecurity facing Nigeria today has made almost every part of the country insecure, especially the northern part of the country, where there are many invasions and attacks.
The menace which insecurity has done to Nigeria is overemphasised! A minister of a well-known church in Nigeria was returning home with his wife after an annual programme of the church; the journey was from west to north. On their way North, they were kidnapped. Apart from being captured and kept for some days, they experienced great casualties from the attackers before they were released, leaving the man mentally ill.
On March 28, 2026, the Jos attack claimed the lives of some people and left many injured by gunmen. It is outrageous when people experience a sudden attack that deprives them of “freedom of life”. A few days after the Jos attack, a student of UNIJOS, John Arum Azi, was also kidnapped in Zaria, Kaduna State. He was brutally beaten and suffered inhumane treatment until a ransom was paid.
These are a few of the menaces caused by insecurity in Nigeria.
Election is fast approaching, politicians are presently seeking political posts, and the existing political leaders are seeking a second tenure. Nothing bad in that, but the country also needs immediate actions to revive itself from the state of insecurity.
The present condition of insecurity in Nigeria has caused all the residents of a community to leave their houses for fear of frequent gunmen invasions. These repeated terrorist attacks and kidnapping cases in Nigeria not only need attention but special and immediate attention.
Therefore, this writing is to implore the Federal Government and state governments to put more effort into combating and eradicating insecurity in Nigeria.
This is something possible if the necessary protocols are applied.
