Libel: Court directs police to ensure Osun cleric, son’s appearance

The Lagos State Government has arraigned Olusola Shedrach before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja over the alleged forceful takeover and destruction of property.

Shedrach was brought before Justice Hakeem Oshodi on a three-count charge filed by the state, bordering on land grabbing, wilful damage and conduct likely to breach public peace.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant forcefully took possession of a church property belonging to Harvesters Church along the Gbagada–Oworonshoki Expressway, an offence said to contravene Section 2(1) of the Lagos State Properties Protection Law, 2016.

He was also accused of wilfully damaging property on the site, an offence punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The state further alleged that his actions amounted to conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, contrary to Section 168(d) of the same law.

At the hearing, the state prosecutor, Mrs Olufunmilayo Aluko, applied for the defendant’s plea to be taken, and the court granted the request. The charges were read, and Shedrach pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Following the plea, defence counsel, Mr O. Odueso, sought a short adjournment to enable the defence to file and argue a bail application.

Justice Oshodi adjourned the matter to April 22, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application, while trial is scheduled to commence on June 17, 2027.
