The Supreme Court has scheduled April 22 for hearing two appeals filed by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki.

A five-member panel of the apex court, headed by Mohammed Garba, granted an accelerated hearing of the appeals on Tuesday, shortening the timeline for all parties to file their legal arguments.

In its ruling, the court approved a departure from its standard procedures, directing respondents to submit their briefs within five days, while the appellants were given two days to respond thereafter.

Accordingly, the appeals challenge the March 9 decisions of the Court of Appeal, which upheld earlier rulings of the Federal High Court in Abuja restraining the PDP from proceeding with its planned national convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025.

The lower court had ordered the party to halt the convention until it complies with statutory requirements, including provisions of the Electoral Act and the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.

Those Federal High Court rulings were delivered by Justices James Omotosho and Peter Lifu in suits initiated by aggrieved party members, among them former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido.

Proceedings at the Supreme Court drew the presence of key political figures, including Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as well as former governors Aliyu Babangida and Sule Lamido, alongside Taufeek Arapaja.
