Man, 20, arrested for alleged attempt to kill boy in ritual attack

Police in Katsina have arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly attempting to kill a 10-year-old boy in what they described as a ritual-related attack.

According to sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the incident happened on February 22 at about 7:30 p.m. in Kuidawa Village.

The suspect, Aliyu Ashabu, who is said to call himself a native doctor popularly known as Boka, allegedly tricked the young boy, Alhassan Usman, and took him to a nearby bush.

He is accused of pushing the boy into a well.

The child was rescued the following day, February 23, by a good Samaritan.

He was taken to the General Hospital in Katsina, where he is receiving treatment for different injuries.

Police sources said the suspect was later tracked down and arrested.

During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime. He allegedly told investigators that he was preparing charms for someone identified as Khalid, who is still on the run.

The police said the case is still under investigation. The suspect may face charges including attempted culpable homicide, unlawful juju practices, and cult-related offences.
