A former Commissioner for Works and Finance in Taraba State, Bulus Maiyaki, has condemned the recent attacks and burning of churches in communities in Donga and Takum Local Councils.
Maiyaki, who spoke to reporters yesterday in Jalingo, said the killings must stop.
He expressed concern over the incessant attacks on communities in the two councils in recent times, calling on all stakeholders to come together to end the menace.
Maiyaki appealed to Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, as well as the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Muslim Council in the state to wade into the crisis with a view to finding a lasting solution.
He also stressed the need to involve traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders in peace-building efforts to prevent a recurrence of such acts in the area.
Maiyaki, who served under former governor Jolly Nyame, advised the attackers to stop the killings and present their grievances to the appropriate authorities for redress.
“I am worried over the continuous attacks, maiming, killings and destruction of property by a group of people, who have not come out to tell the public what their grouse is against the Tiv communities in Donga and Takum.
“These killings must stop, and I am advising the perpetrators to sheathe their swords and present their grievances to the authorities for redress.
“I am calling on Governor Kefas, our traditional rulers as well as CAN and Muslim Council in the state to intervene in this matter with the view to finding lasting solution,” Maiyaki pleaded.
It would be recalled that suspected herdsmen killed people, displaced others and destroyed churches on Sunday in Donga and Takum Local Councils of Taraba State.
