Muslim cleric arraigned for alleged illegal land sales in Kano

Two men, identified as Okewale Oluleke and Oluwasegun Oluwasanmi, were on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged offensive social media posts said to be capable of breaching public peace in Lagos State.

The defendants, aged 48 and 50, respectively, are standing trial on a four-count charge relating to conspiracy and conduct likely to cause a disturbance.

Prosecuting counsel, Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the alleged offences were committed between August and December 2025, in collaboration with others who are currently at large.

She alleged that the defendants published a series of provocative posts on Facebook using the accounts “Lagos Concern” and “Prince Chigo,” which, according to the prosecution, could incite unrest.

Ikhayere also informed the court that Oluleke allegedly sent an electronic message via WhatsApp to a public officer on September 20, 2025, as part of the alleged acts.

The prosecution maintained that the actions were capable of undermining public order and contravened Sections 412, 413(2), and 416 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor applied for their remand and requested a trial date, adding that the state intends to tender exhibits, including mobile phones allegedly used in carrying out the offences.

In his ruling, Magistrate L.A. Owolabi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N400,000 each, with two responsible sureties per defendant.

The matter was adjourned until February 26 for mention and continuation of proceedings.
