Edo Tribunal: A vital step for justice, TAMO hails relocation to Abuja

The relocation of the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal from Benin City to Abuja has been hailed as a crucial step toward ensuring a fair and impartial judicial process. This development, announced by the tribunal secretary, has garnered support from Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO), which described the move as decisive and positive for justice.

In a statement signed by Erhabor Emokpae on Friday in Benin City, TAMO noted that while no official explanation has been given for the relocation, the decision was both timely and necessary to safeguard the tribunal’s proceedings.

“It is clear that this move, one we welcome, ensures a more secure and neutral environment for the proceedings, free from the pressures and tensions surrounding the tribunal in Edo State,” the statement read.

TAMO expressed confidence that the relocation to the National Judicial Institute in Abuja would eliminate local interference, allowing the tribunal to focus solely on evidence and legal arguments.

“By moving the tribunal to the National Judicial Institute in Abuja, the process is shielded from local interference, ensuring that justice will be based solely on evidence and legal merit,” the group stated.

The statement further criticised the alleged tactics of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of attempting to obstruct the judicial process through actions such as preventing BVAS inspections and intimidating witnesses. TAMO described the relocation as a necessary measure to counter such alleged manoeuvres.

“This relocation removes any leverage they might have hoped to exert locally, allowing the tribunal to operate in a secure and impartial setting,” TAMO added.

TAMO also reaffirmed its unwavering confidence in Asue Ighodalo’s petition, describing it as a solid case supported by compelling evidence and thorough legal preparation.

“The overwhelming strength of the petition continues to give confidence to all who value democracy and the rule of law. This relocation ensures that the case will expose the full truth of what happened in the election,” the statement continued.

The group urged supporters of justice and democracy to remain steadfast as the legal proceedings continue in the new location.

As the tribunal prepares to convene in Abuja, all eyes remain on the unfolding process, with stakeholders anticipating a fair and transparent resolution to the case.
