The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency has sensitised residents of the state to their consumer rights.
The agency, in a statement, said consumers had the right to seek legal redress whenever they feel cheated or buy harmful products, stressing that “there is a consumer protection agency in Lagos State.”
LASCOPA said, “If you buy a product, check for the required product information like the production date, expiry date, NAFDAC registration number, etc.
“As a consumer, you have a right to report and seek redress against a manufacturer/producer on their product or brand that is harmful, even when the product has the prerequisite product information.
“As a consumer, you have a right to legal recourse. If you buy a product or paid for a service but are not satisfied or didn’t get value for money spent, you are entitled to a repair, replacement, and refund as the case may be.”
The agency added that this right “can be activated under the law by lodging a complaint on any hazardous products or unsatisfactory services encountered by consumers.”
Reiterating that its job is to eliminate hazardous products and to put an end to all unfair trade practices and exploitation of consumers, the agency said it was “time to kick all these perpetrators out of Lagos State.”
It encouraged consumers to always speak up and report cases of exploitation and unsatisfactory services to the agency.
