A managing director of a firm attempts suicide over N27m debts

RIVERS – There was pandemonium on Friday in Rumuaghorlu area in Obio/Akpor Local Government area of Rivers State as a middle aged man allegedly attempted to commit suicide over debts. 
The man, Meshack Okonye, who is the Managing Director of CMIK High Global Service, was gathered had incurred debt which debtors troops to his house daily. 
It was learned that Okonye, had allegedly worked for a firm, Bua International Limited in Sugar Refinery project in Port Harcourt and after the project that Bua still owed CMIK over N27 million. 
It was gathered that Okonye had sold off most of his property in order to pay for the workers, he employed and the machineries he hired for the project. 
The wife, Mrs. Millicent, narrated that her husband had attempted to commit suicide because of debtors, adding that after a work he did several people have been coming to demand for their payment. 
Millicent noted that those his husband borrowed money from to execute the project have been threatening, noting that Okonye did a job for one Bua International Limited and that over 27,750,000 was still not being paid. 
She explained that her husband has sold off most of his property to able him pay the debts, but that the money is too huge. 
“I will not be happy and I will not take it lightly if my husband hurts himself because of debt that Bua International Company owes him,” she added. 
However, Millicent called on the government agencies and well meaning Nigerians to compel Bua International Limited to pay her husband so that he could pay of his debts. 
Meanwhile, the management of Bua International Limited declined comment when contacted.
