Techlawyers to examine Nigeria’s media regulatory challenges

THE chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Lawyers in the Media Forum (LIM), Ms. Theodora Kio-Lawson has said that its quarterly roundtable would interrogate critical issues and regulatory challenges in the country.

The issues include the need to reform the aviation, food and beverages as well as the banking sectors in other to stimulate competition in those sectors.

It will also look at guidelines, safeguards, rights and interests in consumer protection, the limitations of the consumer protection act, as well as the role of the media.

“The LIM quarterly event is geared towards law and economical development, with the media as a viable tool,” she pointed out.

According to her, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and the Director-General, Consumer Protection Agency, Mr. Tunde Irukera are among dignitaries expected at the roundtable.

It will hold at the Protea Hotel, Benin-City, Edo State on September 28. Its theme is: Consumer Protection and Economic Development: the need for Media intervention.

Governor Obaseki will open the event, to be chaired by immediate past NBA President, Mr. Augustine Alegeh (SAN).

Director-General of the Consumer Protection Agency, Mr. Tunde Irukera will be the Lead speaker. Dean Faculty of Law, University of Benin Prof. Nathaniel Inegbedion will be a Guest speaker.

Head of Litigation at Nigerian Bottling Company Mrs. Chinwe Odigboegwu, and Vice- Chairman NBA Section on Business Law, Mr. Seni Adio (SAN), former Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN), former Dean Post Graduate School, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Prof. A. D. Badaiki, among others, will be the panelists.

Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe and the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Esohe Ikponwen are also expected to be special Guests at the event.

Also expected are the pioneer chairman of the NBA Section on Business Law, Mr. George Etomi and the chairman of SBL, Mr. Olumide Apata.  Others are Senior Special Assistant to Governor Obaseki on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs Ifueko Alufohai, Chief Arthur Obi Okafor (SAN), Prof. Ernest Ojukwu (SAN) and Mazi Afam Obi.
