Community gets Senate speedy passage of law establishing Ekiti varsity

Senate leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has assured the Iyin Ekiti community in Ekiti State that the bill seeking the establishment of a Federal University in the town would receive accelerated passage by both chambers of the National Assembly.

He said the passage would take a few weeks and that President Bola Tinubu is waiting to sign the bill into law once passed by the federal legislators.

He spoke at the 2023 Iyin Ekiti Day celebration, where chieftaincy titles were conferred on some personalities and friends of the community.

The federal lawmaker said the institution would facilitate development in Iyin Ekiti.

Meanwhile, the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeniyi Adeola Ajakaiye, has called on wealthy Nigerians to contribute to the development of their community.

The traditional ruler also stressed the need for communities to identify and harness their potential to enhance economic growth at the grassroots.

He said: “We have visited a lot of places, tourist attractions that we need to project to the world, to bring tourists to Ekiti, to enhance the development of our town and we are putting up a strategic plan on how to develop the town.

“Iyin used to be the best planned town in the old western region and we want to continue this legacy.”
