NICArb to decongest courts

Registrar and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitration (NICArb), Mrs. Shola Oshodi-John, has appealed to the Federal Government to make matters relating to dispute resolution come to the institution.

The move, she observed, would decongest the courts.

Oshodi-John made the call while addressing newsmen in Lagos on the institute’s 2023 conference, with the theme, ‘Repositioning Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practices in Africa’ to be held from November 15 to 17 in Abuja. She explained that the yearly event, which is both physical and virtual, would address issues on cross-border practice of arbitration and ADR within the African continent and beyond, commercial and investor-state arbitration in Nigeria, managing bias in arbitral processes, emerging trends in arbitration and ADR in the United States and United Arab Emirates (UAE), among others. Speakers include Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN); President & Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu (SAN, who is chief host; Justice Esther Moutngui Ikoue and President of Common Court of Justice and Arbitration (OHADA), Mary Walker.
