A Lagos based lawyer, Monsieur Avril has taken to social media to lament, claiming he was unjustly removed from the Ikeja Bar Association WhatsApp group over a derogatory statement about the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
In an online post, the lawyer with the username @monsieur_avril said he referred to Oluomo as an “executive thug” in a news story. He expressed anger that this led to his removal from the NBA Ikeja Branch WhatsApp chat group.
The lawyer alleged that anyone who criticizes the recent Presidential Election Petition Tribunal verdict or challenges the judiciary’s supposed patriotism risks being expelled from the platform.
He accused the NBA Ikeja group of intolerance, stating that valid arguments against the tribunal judgment or judiciary actions are being mislabeled as aspersions and leading to removals.
The lawyer’s claim has sparked debate about limits on speech in professional chat groups and concerns that valid criticism is being stifled. However, the NBA Ikeja chapter is yet to address the allegations of stifling dissent over recent political and judicial events.
I WAS REMOVED FROM THE NBA IKEJA PLATFORM FOR USING A DEROGATORY CAPTION AGAINST MC OLUOMO. 🤣
