#EndSARS: Adopt new constitution for Nigeria, YCE advises government
The Secretary-General of the Yoruba Council Of Elders, Dr Kunle Olajide, has said Nigeria needs a brand new constitution that will recognise its diversity.

Olajide said this in an interview with our correspondent in Ibadan on a Monday.

He said the #EndSARS protest had proved that Nigerians had bottled up emotions and they just used the opportunities provided by the protest to register their displeasure.

He however appealed to the youths to go off the streets, saying their voices had been heard and it was time for them to dialogue so that the gains of their struggles would not be wasted.

Olajide said hoodlums hijacked the protest which led to massive destruction of lives and properties.

The YCE scribe said, “The Yoruba Council of Elders is appealing to the justifiably angry youths all over the country to sheathe their swords and go off the streets and maintain peace.

“Nigerians share their pains and anguish in these challenging times, they must take their case to the negotiating table now.

“Nigeria needs a new peoples’ constitution which will recognise the diversity of our country and return power to the federating units where Nigerians reside.

“Our youths must avoid losing the sympathy of the whole world.

“They must also not ethnicise the national problem and must refuse to be provoked to destroy our patrimony and proud heritage of our fatherland. Our infrastructure and other assets which our very patriotic forefathers built.

“The political leadership elite i.e the Federal Government, the National Assembly, and state governors must rise up and Initiate the process of righting all wrongs and correcting the injustice in the system immediately.”
