*NBA seeks autopsy, ballistic report to be used in trial of killer cop
The scheduled final rites for a slain lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, have been called off at the instance of the NBA, with the consent of her family.
A wake kept in honor of the late Mrs. Raheem was earlier scheduled for today, at the Olive Tree Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church, with burial fixed for the morrow; however, the NBA is seeking to review both the autopsy and ballistic report expected to be used at the trial of the alleged killer cop.
Representatives of the Association and the family were denied viewing rights during the autopsy session, insisting that only an independent pathologist from the family will be granted viewing rights.
NBA is however optimistic that the ‘quality’ of the report will aid the prosecution in building a case against the alleged killer cop.
As the fallout from a courtesy call on the Lagos state Attorney General, Commissioner of Police, and the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, the justice sector players assured the Bar leader that Justice will be achieved at the end of the day; promising to leave no stone unturned. The law body is also expected to hold a special session for lawyers to pay their last respect to the slain lawyer.
Recall that Bolanle, a Nigerian lawyer was killed on Christmas day by alleged killer cop, ASP Drambi Vandi while returning from a church service with her partner. The killer cop has since been remanded by a court in Lagos state at the Ikoyi correction section after being charged with Murder.
Also recall that the NBA had also empaneled a team of lawyers led by Mrs. Titilola Akinlawon, SAN, to ensure that the investigation and trial of the killer cop are not derailed or subverted.
Other members of the team, include Mrs. Abiye Tam-George, Charles Ajiboye, and Chineyere Obasi. The chairpersons of Lagos, Ikeji, Ikorodu, Badagry, and Epe branches of the NBA, and some senior lawyers are also included in the team.
