Following a fresh clash on Friday between Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities, during which two people were killed and several houses destroyed, the state government on Saturday compelled the two warring communities to sign a peace pact.
At a peace and security meeting between government, security agencies, the two communities and other stakeholders at Government House Annex Edjeba, all parties were requested to surrender all weapons at their disposal amongst others.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the feuding communities, Chairman of Warri South Local Council, representative of the Chairman Udu Local Council, Commissioner of Police Delta State, Special Adviser to Delta State Governor on Peace and Conflict Resolution, Police Area Commander Burutu, Divisional Police Officers of Ogbe- Ijoh and Onwie Police Stations and representative of the Commanding Officer 3 Battalion (Rear) Effurun.
Several decisions were taken at the meeting, while demarcation of the disputed boundary area between the two communities was to be suspended till further notice.
The Executive Governor or a delegation from Delta State Government was to visit the disputed boundary area before recommencement of the demarcation exercise, while leaders of the two feuding communities were to desist from threatening one another.
Additionally, any leader or community member who was found culpable of breaching the truce was to be severely sanctioned in accordance with the law henceforth.
The Guardian also gathered that all arms and ammunition still being harboured in any of the communities were to be voluntarily submitted to security agencies.
