The Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Justice Salisu Garba, has tasked judicial financial resources managers on the right attitude to work to increase productivity.
Justice Garba spoke in a welcome address at the national workshops on Management of Judicial Financial Resources for Directors of Finance, Deputy Directors, Chief Accountants, Auditors and other Financial Officers of the Judiciary, held in Abuja.
The NJI chief also charged the Judicial Resource Managers on financial integrity in the course of their duties, which he said is pivotal to an effective Judicial accounting, and for setting rational working principles, which are standard expected of financial officers.
He said: “You must keep abreast of current trends in the financial sector in an effort to curb corruption and waste, and in so doing, enhance transparency in your day to day activities in the judiciary.
“You should avoid all appearances of impropriety and live above board, doing otherwise will negatively affect the integrity of the Judiciary.”
Justice Garba stated that with the right zeal, commitment and right attitude of the financial resource officers in courts, seamless operations within the court system would be guaranteed and unproductivity would be a thing of the past.
He further charged the Judicial Resource Managers to, “be resourceful and come up with practical solutions in this era of economic depression to assist the judiciary in the attainment of its set goals; therefore, you cannot afford to rest on your oars, rather you must continuously strive for excellence in the discharge of your duties always.”
The workshop themed: strengthening financial integrity of the judiciary, was aimed at bringing participants up to speed with global best practices on financial integrity and propriety in the Judiciary.
Other dignitaries at the workshop were the acting Chief Judge of Kogi state, Justice Josiah Mejebi, Justice Emmanuel Osagede of the Customary Court of Appeal, Nasarawa state; and Grand Khadi of the FCT, Justice Ibrahim Rufa’i Imam.
