I borrowed it, says arrested Osun suspected TV thief

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osun State Command, on Monday, paraded before newsmen, one Gbenga Olamilekan, who allegedly stole a television set, a keg of palm oil and a laptop from the house of a politician in Ilesa.

The 33-year-old Olamilekan, who is a plumber, was said to have been hired by the victim, simply identified as Akinwale, several times in the past to work in his house before the incident.

But when asked how the items got in his custody, Olamilekan said he only borrowed the items and did not steal them.

He said, “I borrowed the items and returned them immediately but unfortunately, Honorable was not around then. So, I sent him a text message to notify him that I have returned the items.”

However, when asked again what transpired on the day the items got lost, Olamilekan admitted that he stole them but had plans to return the television set.

Giving further details of the offences allegedly committed by the suspect, the acting Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Osun Command, Kehinde Adeleke, said the stolen items were recovered from Olamilekan’s residence in Ilesa.

Adeleke said the suspect was able to gain access to the victim’s house because he was familiar with the premises, having been hired several times to work there.

She said, “The suspect allegedly gained access to the victim’s house and carted away his television, a laptop, two pairs of canvas, kitchen utensils and a keg of palm oil.

“The case was reported to the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the NSCDC, State Headquarters, Osogbo, by the Area Commander of Osun East “A” Area Command, Ilesha.

“Upon arrest and handing over of the suspect alongside the exhibits, he was thereafter taken to the interview room where he volunteered a confessional statement.”

Adeleke said that upon completion of investigation, the suspect would be charged to court.
