Ogun to redesign Sango Ota drainage system

The Ogun State Government is set to embark on clean-up and redesigning of all drainage networks in the Sango Ota area of the state.

The exercise is in conjunction with the Ado-Odo Local Government, Traditional Chiefs and Communities Development Associations.

A statement made available to journalists on Sunday quoted the state Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya, as saying that the exercise will also involve the maintenance of old drainages and the construction of new ones.

The commissioner, who visited the town on an environmental inspection tour, said the exercise will not only bring relief to the residents but will preserve the government’s investment in road infrastructure in the town.

“The state government has commenced lots of roads in Ota-Ijoko. Ojuore and Idiroko roads have been completed. These are investments in infrastructure and one thing that will threaten them is the drainage issue.

“So, we want to preserve them through good drainage networks as we don’t want a situation where we are careless and come back next year and find out that the roads are gone,” Oresanya said.

The commissioner also said the state government would work with the local government authorities to curb street trading as this will change the traffic flow in the town.

On his part, the Chairman of Ado-Odo, Ota Local Government, Sheriff Musa, said the exercise will be painless for the residents of Sango-Ota.
