The 2022 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kano Branch has kicked off with a walk to the Kano State government house to drive home the importance of judicial autonomy.
Members of branch, led by its Chairman, Aminu Muhammad Sani Gadanya embarked on the walk from major roads in the State capital to the government house to address the Governor on the need to immediately take measures to ensure the complete autonomy and independence of the state judiciary noting that only then will the justice system be truly fair and unbiased.
The walk was themed “Judicial Autonomy Equals Better Access To Justice”.
At the government house, the Secretary to the Kano State government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji addressed the lawyers on behalf of the Governor assuring them that a bill to grant full autonomy to the state judiciary is currently before the House of Assembly, and will be assented to by the Governor immediately it is passed.
The 2022 Law Week of the NBA Kano branch continues today and will end on the 22nd of the March, 2022.
The theme for this year’s week is; Legal Practice at Cross-Roads: Challenges of Lawyering in the face of Nigeria’s Political and Economic Climate”.
