The Nigerian Bar Association Lagos Branch has released the itinerary of the Plenary sessions for the 2022 law Week which will begin on Friday, 18th – Friday, 25th March.
The event which will kick off properly on Monday, will have Prof. Akin Oyebode, as the keynote speaker.
The Law Week is tagged; “Democracy and Legal Order: Shaping the Future”, will have Prof. Akin Oyebode, as the keynote speaker.
The event which will kick off properly on Monday, will witness 8 Plenary sessions with powerful topics to be discussed with seasoned Scholars, lawyers, stakeholders, and captains of industries.
In the 1st Plenary Session, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN Chief R. A. Lawal-Rabana, SAN, Mrs. Chinwe Efobi (FIDA) and Mrs. Ayo Obe, will discuss the topic ‘Legal Order: Terrorism, Banditry, Elections, and Good Governance,’ while Chief J.K. Gadzama, SAN, serves as the Moderator.
The 2nd Plenary Session is on ‘Governance and the Role of the Private Sector’. The Acting Chief Judge of Imo State Justice Theresa Chukwuemeka-Chikeka, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Financial Derivatives Co Ltd, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, Director, Governance and sustainability, Sahara Group, Mrs. Pearl Uzokwe and the General Controller (GC) UAC, Ms. Nkem Agboti, are the discussants, in this session while Shola Soyele, of Channels TV, will be there as the Moderator.
“Taxation, Development and Fiscal Federalism” will be a subject of discussion during the 3rd Plenary Session, Mr. Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN (Partner, Aluko & Oyebode), Prof. Derek Obadina (Prof of Taxation, LASU), Mrs. Lolade Ososami (UUBO), Mr. Taiwo Oyedele (PwC) as the discussants and Prof. Abiola Sanni, SAN (University of Lagos), as the Moderator
At the 4th Plenary Session Prof. Ernest Ojukwu, SAN (Partner, Ojukwu, Faotu & Yusuf), Mr. Tobenna Erojikwe (Chairman, NBA ICLE), Mr. Sylvester Elema, SAN (Principal Partner, Usman & Elema), Prof Ayo Atsenuwa (University of Lagos) and Prof. Konyinsola Ajayi, SAN as the Moderator, will be speaking on the topic “Upskilling Lawyers for Contemporary Practice”.
The 5th Plenary Session, which will be on Tuesday, the 22nd the topic ‘Arise, Sleeping Giant: Unlocking Nigeria’s Potential as an Investment Destination,’ will be discussed by Mrs. Tinuade Awe (CEO, NGX Regulation Limited), Mrs. Dolapo Kukoyi (Partner, Detail Solicitors), Mr. Chinua Azubike (CEO, Infrastructure Credit Guarantee Company Limited), Mr. Fola Fagbule (Senior Vice President and Head of Financial Advisory at Africa Finance Corporation) and Mr. Rotimi Aju (Partner, Consolex), the Moderator.
On the 6th Plenary Hon Justice (Dr.) Nnamdi Dimgba, (Federal High Court, Awka Division), Dr. Anthony Idigbe, SAN, Prof. Godwin Oyedokun, will discuss the topic, Session is on ‘Giving Life to the Business Rescue Intent of CAMA 2020 under the Present Legal Order: Implementation Challenges’, while Mr. Ayo Akintunde, SAN, serves as the Moderator.
The 7th Plenary Session will have the topic ‘Technology and Justice Delivery: The Bar and Bench of the Future’, discussed by Hon Justice (Dr.) Benedict Kanyip (President of the NIC), who will be represented by Justice Nweneka G. Ikechi, Mr. Basil Udotai (Technology Advisors), Mr. Bidemi Daniels, Dr. (Mrs) Adekemi – Omotubora and Mr. Rotimi Ogunyemi (Chairman, ICT Committee NBA-SBL), is the Moderator.
The last Plenary Session will Hon Justice Ayo Phillips (Rtd),Mr. Mike Igini, Resident Commissioner, INEC, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Dapo Akinosun, SAN, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, Hon Attorney General of Lagos State, to discuss on the topic ‘The Roles of the Judiciary, the Legislature and the Executive in the Forthcoming Elections: A Critical Appraisal’, while Mrs. Onikepo Braithwaithe, is the Moderator.
