President, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Mr. Olutoyin Ayinde inaugurating the first female Chairperson of Ogun State Chapter, Mrs. Oyeyinka Adenekan, with them is Dr. Adenekan.
The President, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Mr. Olutoyin Ayinde has called for new leaders, who are responsive, responsible, transparent and accountable to their members.
Ayinde, who spoke on ‘Leadership Recruitment – A New Season is Here’ at the investiture of the Ogun State Chapter Chairman, Mrs. Olufunke Adenekan, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said: “Leadership in professionalism requires that a high sense of integrity be demonstrated by every member of the executive.
He said: “We need leaders who can confront evil practices, those who can set right deviant professionals, leaders who can stand against sharp practices and leaders who would always tell the truth. It is uprightness that will make this profession remain upstanding and that, the new leadership must pursue.”
He urged the new team led by the first female chapter chairman to bring value and vision into the practice to further the aims and objectives of the institute.
“Your new energy and sense of purpose should propel you to exceed the performance of your predecessors.
“Break away from old habits and embrace principles of good governance. Every succeeding generation is expected to do better and more than the previous generation.
“The national body encourages the new leadership to possess sufficient courage to make it excel beyond the ordinary. Now, more than ever, this profession needs courageous leaders.”
In her accepetance speech, Adenekan promised a dynamic system and minds to bring uniqueness to the chapter.
Among her proposed agenda is to launch community-based projects, proactive welfarism and publicity as well as embark on training and re-training of members.
She also plans to confront issues concerning professionals in private, public sectors and embark on group health insurance schemes for members.
