The Nigerian Bar Association National Executive Council (NEC), has resolved to take effective and concrete action against the elements responsible for the illegal invasion of the House of a Justice of the SC, Hon. Justice Mary Odili.

This decision was reached today, during the Emergency Virtual Meeting, convened by NBA president Olumide Akpata.

NEC members who spoke during the meeting not only condemned the action but said that the Attorney General of Federal, Malami Abubakar SAN, must be disciplined by both Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee and Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.

After many submissions and contributions, NEC resolved that those involved must be brought to book. It was also agreed that Malami SAN, must be made to account for his actions or inactions in the whole matter, as this recent infamous conduct is an opportunity to address his past official indiscretions.

Also, the FCT Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Iyanna, who issued the Warrant, was not spared despite the fact that he immediately revoked the warrant and denied having any knowledge that the Warrant was for Justice Odili. NEC noted that the discipline will serve as a strong warning to other Magistrates and Judges who grants frivolous orders because security agencies brought them.

NBA NEC equally resolved that the Association will carry out its independent investigation into the matter.

A manageable fact-finding Committee shall be established to put up a template, the basis upon which NBA would proceed. Members of NBA NEC and beyond may be called upon to give meaning and effect to the NEC Resolutions today.

The president noted that an assault on the Judiciary is an assault on the legal profession and must therefore do what it takes to produce tangible results.

He assured members of the NEC, that actions plans will be rolled out to update the Council.
