Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has erased the names of three medical doctors from its register, stopping them from practising henceforth.
The decision was taken after the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal tried them and found them guilty of gross misconduct.
The tribunal’s Chairman, Prof Abba Hassan, disclosed the outcome of the trial to journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
He read from a document titled “Report of Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal for the period of 2019 to 2021.”
Twelve other practitioners were suspended for periods of practice ranging from three to six months.
“As provided under Section 16 (1) (2) of the MCDN Act, Cap M8 LFN 2004(as amended), the tribunal found the following doctors guilty of gross misconduct in a professional respect and has directed the registrar to erase their names from the register of the medical practitioners in Nigeria,” the tribunal’s document read in part.
It listed the affected doctors to include Dr Yakubu Koji of Jimeta Clinic and Maternity, Yola, Adamawa State; Dr Sunday Elusoji of University of Benin Teaching Hospital; and Dr Stephen Alaiyemola of Philadelphia Specialist Hospital, Apapa, Lagos.
According to the statement, 12 medical practitioners were also suspended after the tribunal found them guilty of “misconduct(s) in a professional respect.”
The statement added that five medical practitioners were convicted of misconduct and were “admonished.”
