LASG calls for cooperation on Ikeja, Ikorodu road works

The Lagos State Government has called for cooperation from stakeholders on the successful execution of the junction improvement works of Ikeja Underpass and Ikorodu Roundabout, as it commences with the establishment of a right of way.

At a meeting held in Alausa on Thursday, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, said the path towards achieving proper transport and traffic management in the state would require massive investment in road infrastructure development and renewal.

Calling for the cooperation of residents for the establishment of the right of way and the successful execution of projects, Salako highlighted that the process of establishing the right of way might necessitate the removal of some structures to pave the way for mutually benefiting projects in the public interest.

Salako said, “The junction improvement works, as in every development project, will unavoidably make demands on our ability to accommodate growth by making needful compromise and removing impediments in the right of way of these desirable projects.”

He assured that efforts would be geared towards the timely completion of the projects, noting that any removal of structures would be strictly as a matter of necessity and subject to payment of compensation as applicable.

Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, explained that the projects were conceived as traffic management interventions to facilitate the ease of movement and socioeconomic development of the two important local government areas.

Stakeholders from the two local government areas including the Chief Imam of Ikorodu, Sheik Oshoala and Prince Supo Ogunleye, commended the state government’s efforts at infrastructural renewal and urged for leniency in establishing the right of way.

Also at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mrs Abiola Kosegbe and her counterpart in the Ministry of Transportation, Mr Kamar Olowoshago.
